Virtual Summer Bridges Program

The Virtual Summer Bridges Program was a joint pilot program of the Calistoga Family Center and the Calistoga Joint Unified School District. The program used iPads along with traditional teaching methods to help build vocabulary and reading comprehension skills for four weeks in Summer 2011. When the children were allowed to take the iPads home, their use of the programs doubled. Upon completion of the program, children may keep the iPads and parents are given low-cost access to the Internet.

Over the course of the four-week pilot program, reading comprehension scores of pilot participants increased from 58.5% to 76.4% (correct first try assessment performance).
