Charter
Napa Learns: The Napa Valley Partnership for 21st Century Education, is a public benefit corporation formed to support and sustain educational improvements and innovations in all schools throughout Napa County, California and to bring equal educational opportunity to all our students. We are a public/private partnership whose goal is to assure that at least 90% of our students are ready for their careers — and success.
Our starting point was the SC21 initiative, based on the nationally recognized project-based learning approach developed at New Tech High in the 1980′s. The New Tech High model has been replicated nationally, with 62 schools in 17 states by the New Tech Network foundation. We seek to offer all students the opportunity to become proficient in collaborative learning, creative thinking, by developing this and other appropriate individualized and project based learning approaches for K-8 classes.
THE NEED FOR CHANGE
Over the last 30 years, our national economy and lifestyle have shifted from the industrial age to the information age and now to the conceptual age. Our county’s population has grown exponentially and the pressures on our schools and teachers to educate all its students well is great. NapaLearns recognizes that public education needs concerted support from business and community to ensure the continued productivity of our valiant teachers and enhance the readiness of our students for success.
THE NAPALEARNS APPROACH
NapaLearns is committed to providing Napa County students with skills and educational opportunities with the help of the very technologies that have enabled and enhanced the productivity that has given our world its new shape. These will be the opportunies for learning that will help place Napa schools on par with top performing schools in the world.
NapaLearns values the importance of student-centered learning and education approaches. Approaches such as project-based learning coupled with technology provide real-life learning experiences for all our students and will help effectively prepare them to compete successfully in an increasingly diverse marketplace.
